Yes Magazine – Raymond Lam Counter attacking the TV/movie industry

Last year, not only did Raymond Lam consolidated his position as one of the top young actors at TVB with his popular role “Goon Ga Jai” in “Moonlight Resonance”, a couple of years ago he also entered the music industry, rapidly raising as a singer. This year besides releasing his third album, he also held his first concert at the HK Coliseum. However, he hasn’t had any notable works in the movie industry! After filming “Stolen Love” with Rain Li in 2002, he hasn’t filmed any movies since. Now that he has achieved some results in the TV and music industries, he has thoughts of conquering the movie industry as well. Recently there had been discussions with him starring in two movies. Since the “Siu” movie company is producing again, does he plan to step into the movie industry as well, developing as a music/movie/TV artiste?

Favoured by the company
Earlier Raymond Lam held his first concert and received many positive responses from the public. His concert CD and DVD are also selling very well, reaching platinum sales. With such outstanding results, Raymond Lam and his music company must be very happy.

“Yeah, this year has been a very happy time for me. The music company has given me many opportunities, giving me the chance to hold my first concert at such a big stage like the Coliseum. Really want to thank the company for having such confidence in me. Luckily I did not disappoint them. Since the results are really good, the celebratory function held for me was also very grand, shouting everyone to eat fish maw. The company also promised that if I can achieve even better results next time, maybe we can eat “abalone/ginseng/shark fin/fish maw” meal. For the chance of eating some good food, my colleagues and I will have to work hard! Haha! (So how will you celebrate?) If the DVD reaches three platinum sales, I’ll hold a T-back party, haha!” Even Mani (Fok) said she supports Raymond holding a T-back party, will even call Ah Sa to attend!

Wants to rap in the new album
Since Raymond has achieved good results in music, he should spend more time in it, what are his future plans? “I’ve already started to record my Mandarin album. Hopefully I can try new things in it, especially rap songs. I’ve always thought it’s easier to rap in Mandarin, plus I’ve always really wanted to try these type of songs. So I’m really looking forward to the upcoming album. Normally, I sing romantic songs. Hopefully I can show everyone a different side of me. Also after the concert I realised I don’t have enough dance songs, since the atmosphere will be a lot more exciting if I’m dancing and singing on stage. The audience will also immerse into the excitement better, so I need to make more fast songs.”

Re-entering the movies industry
With great results in the music and television industry, actually in movies he hasn’t spend much time in it. However, now that he has consolidated his work in music and TV, Raymond wants to enter the movie industry again with ambition. “Recently I’m in discussions on two movies, even though they’re not confirmed yet, but there are high chances that they’ll go ahead. They should be filmed this year. I haven’t filmed a movie for a long time, of course I want to film a “Siu” studio movie, because recently I’ve seen how successful the “Laughing Gor: Turning Point” movie is. So I also want to film movies as well!”

“Even though I want to film movies, I hope my manager doesn’t accept ancient costume movies for me! Normally I film a lot of ancient costume series, so I don’t want to portray those type of characters again. I would most love to film police/cop genre movies, because I haven’t had many chances to portray these type of characters. If I have the chance, I would also like to work with actors with “Best actor” calibre, such as Anthony Wong, Eric Tsang etc, will definitely learn a lot. Actually since I’m such good friends with Ron Ng, also hope to work with him in a movie!”

Reluctant to film Taiwanese dramas
Raymond Lam is very popular in the HK entertainment industry, his series are also very popular overseas. He also has many fans in South East Asian countries. Has Raymond thought about crossing borders, like his colleagues (in the same company) Charlene Choi and Ken Hung, and go to Taiwan to film a series? “I also want to film a Taiwan series. Even though I’ve heard Ah Sa said it’s very hard work. But I can learn more. Actually, there have been people who invited me to film a series in Taiwan, but I already have many series to film in HK, so don’t have time. Plus HK is my home, so HK is my primary market. Maybe after I win “TV king”, then I will think about developing my career in other places. haha!” So he doesn’t even desire to film a Taiwan drama, seems like he wants the “TV king” a lot!

Satisfied with his concerts
Actually it’s not easy to be an actor and singer. Now Raymond says he even wants to enter the movie industry, when will he have time to rest? Even the iron man will need rest! “Of course I want to take a holiday to go places and rest, recharge my batteries, but at this moment for me, it is a luxury. I don’t even have enough time to sleep, so having a few days off travelling overseas is out of the question! So once the upcoming Mandarin album is released, I really want to travel to many countries for promotion. The best will be to go back to my hometown. And also go to Shanghai, Beijing. Then I can have some leisure time as well as work, spend some time sightseeing different places!”

“If I have the chance I also want to be like Joey Yung and William Chan, going overseas to Europe for two weeks to learn dancing. Even though at the moment I don’t have time to sleep, but the excitement from the recently held concerts has overwhelmed all my fatique. I feel very satisfied, so even if I don’t get any holidays for a while it’ll be ok.”

.

This issue also has a column where various stars tell a ghost story…..
Ox tail soup
The ghost story I’ve heard about, happens in an university…..
In an univeristy dorm, the girls lived in the upper level, the boys lived in the lower level. There was a couple, every night the girl will use a rope to carry a jug of ox tail soup down to her boyfriend to drink. Until the summer holidays, the boy went travelling with his family. Afterwards he returned to the dorm, the girl kept sending him soups to drink even though he was not there. But during daytime, he could not find the girl. So he was curious and asked around. Then he discovered his girlfriend had already died from a car accidenct while he was on holidays.

So… who made the ox tail soup?

From the column “Stars Choice – where Charlene Choi talks about his concert CD”!

“Raymond Lam’s recent concerts are definitely very successful. I was also one of the guests, and his fans were very passionate. I think Raymond can sing romantic songs very well, plus he’s also very handsome. So I will faint if I look at him for more than 10 seconds! Haha! This concert CD not only contains his well-known songs, it also contains our English duet “In love with you”. I also like this song a lot, hopefully everyone will support it!”

Tavia Yeung works with Raymond Lam as a couple again

Raymond Lam suffering from gastroenteritis, with diarrhoea and vomiting
Due to having gastro, Raymond Lam was late in attending the blessing ceremony for “Shall we state the case”. He said that he started to vomit and had diarrhoea in the afternoon, and by morning he had already seen a doctor and took an injection. In the new series, Raymond praised Tavia Yeung for her feminity (womanliness – 女人味), but Tavia said that she had not acted as the romantic interest of Raymond for a long time, since “Twin of Brothers”. She joked that he was only concerned with “dating” Linda Chung! However, Tavia said she normally does not attract romance rumours.

.
Here is another news on Raymond's partnership with Tavia Yeung.
.
Kenneth Ma, Tavia Yeung and Raymond Lam attended the blessing ceremony for up coming new TV series “Shall We State The Case” yesterday. Raymond and Tavia will play the role as a couple again following “Golden Faith” and “Twin of Brothers”. Tavia revealed that the two has worked well together, but this time the feeling is different as Raymond has matured a lot. He doesn’t look like a kid anymore. Tavia was teased by the reporter if she is worried about rumors. Tavia smiled saying that it would be inevitable, whether it spreads out successfully is another matter. Tavia went on to say that she is immune with rumors. Raymond thanked Tavia for her remarks, in return, he also said Tavia is very feminine and she is getting more and more beautiful too.

Raymond was late for the blessing ceremony yesterday, he disclosed that he has gastroenteritis and has been having diarrhoea. “I am not sure if I had eaten out of date food at home. I started having diarrhea yesterday and throughout the night too. I was feeling really unwell last night in the fund raising activity. I went to see the doctor and had an injection this morning. We have a celebration dinner tonight, it is a shame that I can’t eat as much as I want.”

Tavia revealed that Kenneth wanted the media to create a rumor for them as on screen couple. She asked Kenneth if he is worried about his girlfriend Nancy Wu. Kenneth said he preferred to have Tavia as his rumored girlfriend; the two was seen sharing fruits together. Tavia told reporter afterwards “You think Kenneth prefers me as his girlfriend, can’t you see he said it with the orange covering his heart?”

[Raymond Lam's Blog] Special Partner

Yeah, now I’m filming this series (points at the sticker) “Shall we state the case”. You can probably tell by its name what the series is about, it talks about cases and romantic relationships. This time… let’s say I’ve known Ah Yi (Tavia Yeung) for eleven years now, in the same TVB acting class, the last time we portray a couple was “Twin of Brothers”. Is it still on? Yeah I think it still is. That was five years ago. So we’re working together again after so many years. I think we have very good chemistry because we’ve known each other for so long, understand each other, so this time working with her besides having mutual understanding there will also be new sparks. Actually this time our characters are quite different. I’m the….let’s just say the “upper class” person, and she’s more at the grass roots level. So putting these two characters together there’ll be many cute moments because our backgrounds are different, so there will be a lot of scientific effects (chemistry?).
.
Actually, this series is a huge new challenge for me because the scripts are big, need to remember long and difficult lines. Usually I can use my own methods to remember the script. But this time, I just have to study and learn it off by heart because I don’t know the physics terms. I studied business at school so I don’t know the science subjects. Also, I have to talk about a lot of physics theories so I just have to learn them. For me it’s a new challenge and so far it’s been ok.
.
Actually, sometimes when we’re working, especially when someone has really long lines, when they don’t remember, we’ll all remind each other. When I’m explaining the cases sometimes I’ll forget but no one reminds me because they say they don’t understand what I’m talking about either, since I’m talking about theories. So I have to rely on myself more, and just learn the lines.

Raymond Lam performed in Vietnam with 10 local models as backing group

.
Raymond Lam was in Vietnam performing a mini concert with a full house of 5000 seats. He is the only Hong Kong singer to have performed in Vietnam after Leon Lai 15 years ago. The stage decoration and the lighting were exactly the same as the one in Hong Kong with seats on either side of the stage, making him feel like home.
.
However, this concert had not got the "Wet" theme, but Raymond had organized 10 local models as the backing singers. Raymond even sang "Remember to forget" with his fans who can only speak Vietnamese and English, but they had learned the song in Cantonese specially for him. Raymond was very happy and was touched.
.

.
After the concert, Raymond had an autograph session which attracted over 200 fans who went crazy over him. They surrounded him and followed his around, some even followed him back to the hotel afterwards. There were fans from Singapore and Malaysia and they flew all the way to Vietnam to support him as well as giving him some souvenirs.
.
Talking about Raymond being the only one from Hong Kong to perform a concert in Vietnam after 15 years, He was very excited and expressed that he is very fortunate having to opportunity to perform there as he hasn't been to Vietnam before. At first, he was worried about not many people would turn up, but when he stood on the stage and saw all seats were occupied, he was very excited. Raymond hopes he will come again. Speaking about the landslides in Taiwan, he was worried about the local fans there. Some of his fans have already told him they were safe through the internet and Raymond himself also donated some money for that.

[Raymond Lam's Blog] My favourite TVB show

Ehhhhh…..the television show that left the deepest impression on me was Natalis Chan’s Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Star because at the time, I thought the clips on the show viewed by the audience allowed them to choose A, B, C or D regarding things that they didn’t know about in everyday life to expand their knowledge about their lifestyle and lifestyle from different countries so I find it really cool (cute?) and you can learn things and I hope that there are more of these game shows which enhance our knowledge and can learn things with great prizes and Natalis was funny so I liked this show and hope they start having it again.

Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles @ Taman Danau Desa

.
Yesterday I had my lunch with my mum at Woo Pin for their famous fish head noodles. As usual, the place is full with customers during lunch time. It is best to eat on weekdays because the place are packed during the weekends and people need to fight for a seat.

.
.
Soong fish head were used and the fish head pieces are either deep-fried or poached. For those who don’t like the fishy whiff or are too much in a hurry to negotiate the bones, they can ask for ‘yue watt’ (fish paste). This is made from fresh tenggiri (mackerel) paste and, being boneless, is ideal for children. I chose the fish paste version, while my mum had the deep-fried fish head version. The fish-pastes were yummy. However, my mum said the fish head pieces have lots of bones.
.
At Woo Pin, the fish stock is made with a generous amount of dried anchovies, not pigs’ heads or chicken bones. This, according to Chinese belief, makes the soup consumable for those who are observing dietary ‘pantangs’ (taboos). This includes those who have undergone major surgeries, women observing post-natal confinement and children recovering from chicken pox. Rice wine were added into the soup to eliminate the fishy smell and helps whet the appetite. Besides, evaporated milk (Carnation milk) is also added into the soup. Salted vegetables, diced tomatoes, spring onions, coriander leaves and fried onions were added into the soup as well. For those who do not like the milk version, they can op for the clear soup option.
.
The mee hoon is also another factor to look into. At Woo Pin’s, they use only the handmade variety, favoured because of its thickness. This would give the diner a better bite, unlike the finer machine-made ones which have a tendency to turn soggy and render a mulchy feel to the palate under soupy conditions.

Raymond @ Lok Fook store opening with Yoyo Mung

.
Responding to rumours of conflict during filming, Raymond Lam is not afraid to battle with Bosco Wong as the most evil character
.
On the 9th August, Raymond Lam and Yoyo Mung attended a jewellery store opening in Shenzhen. They attracted a large crowd and many fans, causing the roads to be completely blocked. There were tens of police (security?) called to control the crowd. When asked about this, Raymond Lam said, “Not too concerned, because there are always lots of people everytime I attend a promotion.”
.
Raymond and Bosco Wong recently collaborated in a series “Growing through life”. Raymond and Bosco are rivals in life and also rivals in love. Recently there had been news of their comparisons, and rumours of their personal conflicts. Raymond, who has the advantage in the music and television industry expressed, “I won’t comment on others, we entered the entertainment industry at around the same time and we know each other quite well. We won’t compare each other, it’s only other people who do these comparisons.” In the series they will both fight to the “most evil”, Raymond said, “we will communicate with each other about our roles, the goal is to achieve a good result in the end.”
.
Additionally, he revealed his “major project” this year is the release of a Mandarin album, “in the past I have to sing other people’s Mandarin songs, hopefully this year I will have my first Mandarin album.”

Raymond Lam's DVD in great demand in HK. Hard to manage another concert by year end

Singer Raymond Lam held his first concert in June 2009 at the Hong Kong Coliseum, gaining a pretty good response, the entire concert was recorded and produced into a concert DVD, on the 10th at Tsim Sha Tsui Gateway Arcade a press conference was held to conduct a DVD autograph session. The scene attracted many of Raymond Lam's fans wearing their yellow and green uniform holding up high, in green, signs of the word "Fung".
.
Raymond Lam frankly said, when the DVD was first released, he had asked a friend to buy a copy for him, he didn't think that the answer would be that it was all sold out, although he hasn't gotten his hands on a copy yet, but knowing that sales are going well, Raymond Lam feels twice as consoled, and furthermore feels greatful of his fans support.
.
As he was asked about when he would hold his next concert, Raymond Lam openly expressed that apart from having to record his mandarin album, he will also be filming some movies and series, filling his schedule all the way to next year, and plus, his concert would also require gathering even more songs, so the plan for a concert would need to be temporarily put on hold and discussed slowly.

Raymond Lam's Concert DVD sold out, rises as the "Water King"

.
Raymond Lam's "Love Unlimited: Let's Get Wet Concert" DVD had recently been out for sale for 2 weeks and its already sold out. Even 20,000 copies were not enough for 2 weeks of sale. Raymond was given the title of "Attractive Water King" by Fans. To thank his supportive peers, Raymond plans to give them a special edition of his DVD as a gift. However, he did not reserve a copy for rumored girlfriend Linda Chung.
.
Last night, Raymond held his autograph session for the DVD and signed 200 autographs, Fans held up Raymond signs during the whole time to show their support and gave him sponge products meaning that their Idol is the "Attractive Water King". In the short period of 10 days, Raymond's DVD sold 5,000 copies of the original version and the limited edition which includes a photobook, the limited edition sold rapidly. He said in a satisfied tone: "There were 20,000 copies of the original and limited edition and its all sold out!" Asked if he would give a copy to rumored girlfriend Linda Chung? He asked back: "It's her business too? And she didn't come to the concert either. I will give a copy to my seniors like Ms. Lok."
.
Raymond said that he also wants to appreciate his concert in the audience perspective, he also went back to watch the 'wet' portion of the concert, asked if he added a "dynamic L" special effect to the wet portion of the concert? Raymond said confidently: "Actually it originally was already really good to watch, the whole part was really good." Unfortunately the parts with Miriam Yeung were not recorded due to the fact that they were not in the same company.

Raymond Lam and Tavia Yeung caused a commotion in Central, Hong Kong

.
TVB new series [State the Case] had an outdoor scene filmed in Central (near a restaurant) last friday (31 July).
.
As required in the series, Raymond Lam and Tavia Yeung were both seen dressed in autumn clothing despite the temperature creeping into the thirtees, not even a faint puff of wind on that night, Tavia even brought her personal cooling fan. On the other hand, Raymond who was wearing a shirt and tie, was constantly wiping his puddle of sweat. He even used his mobile phone as a mirror to comb his hair and to replenish his make-ups.
.
Just shortly after the filming has started, there were more and more enthusiastic onlookers gathering by the roadside just to catch a glimpse of the popular stars, so much so police were called in to keep the crowd in order. The crew had to expedite the filming, so that they could leave the place soonest possible.

Raymond Lam pays more attention to skincare now to maintain facial appearance

.
Men who use skincare products are getting more and more common. In recent tear, Raymond Lam started to pay more attention to skincare. He said, "It's not about trying to be pretty or not, as an artist we often need to attend events. We should pay more attention to our appearance." He also said that before he was very lazy, sometimes after work he would be really tired and just use towels to wipe his face. But ever since there are more males using skincare products, he tried it and felt that the results were good, therefore he started using them more often.
.
In the past, Raymond has been the spokeperson for Southeast Asia skincare products before. He hopes that in the future he could be a spokeperson for one of the skincare brands in Hong Kong. Recently, he has been filming for "Shall We State the Case", he said: "If outdoor scenes or studio scenes are added, in one day, I need 10+ hours to do make-up. So, definitely need to use some skincare products otherwise my skin would be ruined".

Raymond Lam's Blog Update

Reporter: Hello Fung!
.
Fung: Oh Hello!
.
Reporter: What’s your character like this time? Can you give us some information?
.
Fung: This time it’s going to be a challenging one because I have to be an associate physics professor. And my own knowledge of physics, is limited. So this time, when I’m looking at the scripts, its like revising homework because there are a lot of physics related things that I will have to interpret in the series so a lot of the formulas and things like that, I will know have to know very well.
.
Reporter: Your identity in this series is a high classed one.
.
Fung: Yes, I come from a highly respected family and will have to look the part and be looking a bit more classy but the weather is quite hot right now and to look classy, you will have to be wearing a lot of layers so it will be a bit tougher and will tend to wear suits more often and this professor isn’t just going to be in the lab and be at the university giving lectures but will also have to be going to different locations.
.
Reporter: To investigate cases?
.
Fung: I don’t even know why he has to work so hard, this professor. But it will be quite fun because this time there will be Kenneth Ma and his role and my role will have quite a big difference so the effect it will have will be quite funny and with Tavia….it’s been many years since we have acted as a couple and I think this time will have some new chemistry.
.
Reporter: Is there any scene you’re looking forward to? Like how Kenneth is looking forward to the bed scenes?
.
Fung: But there’s a lot of those! (referring to Kenneth’s bed scenes). He will be looking forward to them from the beginning to the end.
.
Reporter: So are there any ones in particular that you’re looking forward to?
.
Fung: Ummm…the scene I look forward to the most? Ummmm…. The scene I look forward most is….well you can’t really say look forward to but, this time there will be some crime investigations so we will be filming a modern series but use the scenery of an ancient series to film like forests and stuff so it should be quite funny.
.
Reporter: Don’t you look forward to the affectionate scenes with Tavia?
.
Fung: Me and her…from what I’ve scene of the script, there aren’t too many affectionate scenes.
.
Reporter: So your relationship will steadily grow throughout the series… (exact words were: “like the small water flowing for a long time”)
.
Fung: Should be towards the end because in the beginning, we aren’t too compatible with each other because I’m a person of reasoning and she’s more the emotional type, and hyperactive where as I am always calm and collected so I usually give a feeling of protection.
